TINY LIBRARY

ARCHITECTURE COMPETITION 2025 – SHORTLISTED ENTRY

ANAFI, GREECE

Amidst the vast blue of the Aegean, Anafi — a remote island with limited educational access — becomes the setting for a library that connects, educates, and inspires. Chosen for its isolation and lack of infrastructure, the site reflects a community in quiet need, where curiosity endures despite distance.

Positioned near the town and the island’s secondary school, the library is open to all ages. Its spiral form unfolds gradually along a gentle path, guiding visitors through a spatial narrative of learning and discovery.

At the heart of the building, a central atrium shelters an olive tree — a symbol of wisdom and resilience — and offers space for gatherings, dialogue, and shared reflection.

Small openings, inspired by Cycladic architecture, frame views of the Aegean sea and allow light and air to shape the atmosphere within, connecting the structure to its natural context.

More than a place for books, the library is a multi-use space: reading zones shift into meeting areas and the atrium becomes a cultural hub. It stands as a lighthouse of knowledge — rooted in place, open to the world.
